What do we mean by "sustainability"?

In 2020 Townsville was named as one of the year's top 100 sustainable destinations in the world, (1). World Heritage Magnetic Island is a central part of the nature and environment conservation areas including the Great Barrier Reef world heritage area which support this assessment. The Mayor's media release said:

"We live in a beautiful part of the world that is surrounded by amazing nature and environmental conservation areas including the Great Barrier Reef world heritage areas, the wet tropics, and Bowling Green Bay RAMSAR Wetland of international importance.

In addition to that, we have our jewel in our crown, Magnetic Island, .... "
